LIBRARIAN 1, OUTREACH SERVICES LIBRARIAN
PERMANENT POSITION BEING FILLED ON A TEMPORARY BASIS

COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The City of Winnipeg Community Services Department invites applications for a Librarian I. Under the direction of the Administrative Coordinator of Targeted Library Services, the Librarian I is responsible for
  • the planning, coordinating, supervising and evaluating the delivery of Library collections, services and programs to target user groups with special requirements for service delivery (Aboriginal, literacy, multicultural, persons with disabilities, seniors);
  • assists in the selection, supervision, scheduling training and evaluation of staff and volunteers;
  • participates in the selection of materials;
  • maintains contact and delivers public presentations;
  • assists in researching and analyzing community needs;
  • participates on committees and task forces, carries out special projects and prepares reports;
  • responsible for keeping abreast of current library developments particularly in the areas of targeted collections, services and programs.
Salary ranges $1,504.00 to $1,758.00 biweekly with a comprehensive benefits package.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of Library Science (B.L.S. or M.L.S.).
  2. Ability to provide excellent customer service to culturally diverse communities and individuals of all ages.
  3. Demonstrated ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
  4. Thorough knowledge of current sources, technologies and techniques required in information services.
  5. Ability to evaluate and integrate the use of technology in the provision of public library service.
  6. Ability to make public presentations and to promote Library materials and services to diverse communities.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  8. Good planning, organizational and problem solving skills
  9. Valid drivers license an asset.
