Wage or Salary: $14.66 - $17.99 per hour + 6% vacation pay

Start Date: As soon as possible

Probation or Trial Period: 420 hours worked

Qualifications:

High school completion or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Post-secondary education with a major in History desired; a library technician's certificate plus one year of library experience or a library technician's diploma desired.

Exposure to office routines as well as two years of related academic library experience and/or training required. Experience with microcomputer applications, including Word and the Libraries' online system, required; experience with EAD and XMetal desired. Archival experience, including RAD, desired. Familiarity with archival concepts desired; familiarity with library concepts and procedures is an asset.

Familiarity with the University and its administrative functions is an asset. Basic keyboard skills required. Proven research skills required. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply automated and manual procedures essential. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, essential. Ability to work in harmony with others required. Demonstrated good judgement in effectively applying standard archival practices required. Ability to work on own initiative and with little supervision required. Demonstrated organizational ability required. Satisfactory work record, including attendance and punctuality, required.

Representative Duties:

1. Draft descriptive entries and administrative histories or biographical notes.
2. Enter RAD descriptions into SAIN/MAIN.
3. Employ EAD to enter finding aids onto the Web.
4. Appraisal and selection of materials from the collection.
5. Arrangement of the selected materials.
6. Conduct background research related to the collection being processed.
7. Data entry of descriptive entries.
8. Preventative conservation treatment, ie. refolding and reboxing collection.
9. Confer with supervising staff on decisions related to processing of collection.
10. Other duties as assigned or required.

*This position is subject to Seasonal layoff.
**Hours of work are variable, 0 - 35 hours per week.
