Chief Librarian
Selkirk & St. Andrews Regional Library

The Selkirk & St. Andrews Regional Library Board invites applications for the position of Chief Librarian. The Library Board seeks a dynamic individual who can make a significant contribution to a future library expansion project.

The library serves a population of approximately 25,000. The library is located in the City of Selkirk, which is approximately 20 kms. north of Winnipeg.

Qualified candidates should have a Library Technician Diploma/Certificate from an accredited institution plus three years of administrative experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A Bachelor's Degree in library/information sciences would be an asset.

Other qualifications are:
- development and implementation of a full range of professional library services
- ability to work with a volunteer board of trustee
- human resource management skills, including management of a unionized work force
- excellent budget forecasting, financial management and policy development skills
- excellent computer/network management skills and knowledge of Spectrum program an asset
- strong problem solving and decision making ability
- ability to deal fairly and communicate effectively, both written and orally, with patrons, staff, and the Library Board
- building management and strong leadership skills

There is a one-year probationary period. Date of commencement is expected to start September 1st, 2004 or earlier. The Library Board thanks all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
