LIBRARY TECHNICIAN I (Req. #79712)
CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL FAMILY LIBRARIES
(PERM/PART TIME)

CLOSING DATE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED

ANTICIPATED SHIFT: 50% EFT, Days, Evenings including Weekends

QUALIFICATIONS:

Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required. Successful completion of a recognized Library Technician program required (2 year program preferred). Basic keyboarding and knowledge of microcomputer operations required. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) required. Knowledge of Internet searches required. Previous library experience preferred. Previous experience with children's literature preferred. Must be able to communicate positively and effectively with library clientele, patient and families. Preference will be given to candidates competent in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledgeable in Aboriginal customs, beliefs, practices. French proficiency at Level: A- (Speaking, Listening Reading) and B+ (Writing) is required. Second language proficiency testing will be administered in order to assess the applicant's proficiency level.

DUTIES:

Reporting to the Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for the effective, efficient provision of library services at Children's Hospital. Duties include: providing reference/information service to the clientele of the Children's Hospital Family Libraries; assisting with collection maintenance and development; maintaining the Children's Hospital pamphlet clearinghouse; planning and providing reading sessions; preparing and circulating the library newsletter; assisting with fundraising. Previous library experience preferred. Previous experience with children's literature preferred. Must be able to communicate positively and effectively with library clientele, patient and families.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Use of V.D.T. Lifts books; repetitive bending.

SALARY: Pay Grade 4, C.U.P.E. Contract
