Combine the best of all worlds - multifaceted senior policy position, manager of a specialized library service and high quality small city living!

The Government of Manitoba is seeking an innovative leader to support and strengthen public library services throughout the province. You will be comfortable guiding policy reviews and fostering strategic planning, and committed to enabling access to information resources for all residents.

The director is both a senior manager in the Department of Culture, Heritage and Tourism and administrator of a direct provincial library service. As a leader in the library community, you are active in associations and consortia. As a creative problem solver, you see connections with regional services, literacy efforts and community development.

Strong communication, leadership and negotiation skills will contribute to your success. Critical analysis and writing ability will enable sound advice to government.

Reporting to the assistant deputy minister for programs, the director is located with 19 branch staff in the city of Brandon. Brandon is the geographic centre of North America, nestled in the scenic Assiniboine River Valley in the heart of Western Manitoba, two hours by car from Winnipeg. As the regional service centre for health, education, retail, arts and entertainment, and host for major world class events, Brandon offers a wide range of amenities far beyond its size.

If you are a collaborative team player, enjoy working with people, passionate about public library services and the role of government, if you can work with others to develop a policy vision for the province, if you enjoy smaller communities, this may be your next leadership position. The Department offers an excellent benefits package.
